Messi in tears as Gotze wins World Cup for Germany
Germany is the new world champions after beating Argentina 1-0, after extra-time, in the World Cup final at the Maracana on Sunday.
Substitute Mario Gotze was the hero for Joachim Low’s side, scoring the winner after taking down a cross from Andre Schurrle and volleying it past Sergio Romero.
The win was a bitter blow for Argentina, and Lionel Messi, who failed to emulate Diego Maradona although the Barcelona star was awarded the Golden Ball for being the World Cup’s best player

Higuain eyes Maradona's crown
Gonzalo Higuain has set himself quite the task.
In similar fashion to Diego Maradona, the 26-year-old forward wants to help guide Argentina to the World Cup in Brazil before inspiring Napoli to the Serie A title.
"This is an important moment for me and for my career," Higuain told La Gazetta dello Sport.
"I want to do what Maradona did: first win the World Cup and then the Scudetto. He triumphed in Mexico with Argentina in 1986 and, a year later, he made Napoli go crazy.
"If I could do this it would really be the ultimate dream. I want to stay in Naples for a long time - here I'm going to be a king."
No pressure, Gonzalo.

Trick or treat? Maradona gives Aguero a scare
Diego Maradona had strong words for Sergio Aguero recently - labelling the Manchester City striker a "wimp" after alleged statements from the Argentina striker to attorneys.
Aguero and is his wife, Giannina Maradona, who is the daughter of the legendary former Napoli attacker, separated in January and Diego could not help but take a swipe at the 25-year-old City star.
"He told Giannina: 'I don't fear anyone'," Diego Maradona insisted to Metro Radio. "In the next meeting with the lawyers I want to be with my daughter to see if he has balls to say what he said to her [again].
"I'm really angry. He's a wimp. He knew that I was in Dubai, that's why he went to that meeting."
Let's hope Aguero kept all doors and windows locked on Halloween night!

Wenger of the Middle East
On Monday Diego Maradona revealed that he would like to leave a legacy at Al Wasl akin to that of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. Maradona told DPA: "I would love to fulfil and go on to renew [my contract]; to become a sort of Arsene Wenger at Al Wasl."
The Argentine legend rejected claims that he took the job in Dubai for solely monetary reasons and went on to reveal his desire to lead the club to glory. Maradona's side currently sit fifth in the UAE Pro League, five points adrift of an AFC Champions League qualifying spot.

Maradona and Chavez (Still the best of friends)
The friendship between Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona and Venezuela president Hugo Chavez
has seemingly survived Boca Juniors' Copa Libertadores opener with
Zamora, a club which is directed by Chavez's brother Adelis. The
Argentine heavyweights were held to a goalless draw by the Barinas-based
club, who played in their first ever game in the continental
competition. But with both sides sharing the spoils, it looks like Diego
and Hugo will remain 'BFF' for a while yet.

Maradona ready to throw his toys out of the pram
Diego Maradona has a well-earned reputation for impetuousness, with his latest rant aimed against Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini over the treatment of wantaway striker Carlos Tevez.
The Argentine legend called the Italian coach a 'spoilt brat', but he seems to be holding all the toys ...

Maradona takes aim at his old rival Pele
The bitter feud between Diego Maradona and Pele only continues to escalate, and judging by the Argentine's latest comments,
which include branding his arch rival a mere puppet to the Fifa family,
before accusing him of being absent from civilisation for the past 20
years, it seems a reconciliation will never see the light of day.
