Hooray! The Champions League is back again

It has been a long two months since the Champions League group stages came to a close and the last-16 ties were drawn out of the hat in Nyon. But fear no more!

Tonight signals the return of the top club competition in Europe - if not the world. It's Manchester City v Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen v Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

With Arsenal taking on Bayern Munich on Wednesday, and Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, Chelsea and a whole host of other top teams in action over the coming weeks, you won't be short of star names and big performances. Rejoice!

Yaya Toure crowned King of Africa

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was named CAF African Footballer of the Year on Thursday.

The Ivory Coast international claimed the award for the third successive year, beating off competition from Jon Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba.

Only Samuel Eto'o has achieved the same feat, between 2003 and 2005, as Toure, who was also the only African player named on the 23-man shortlist for the Fifa World Player of the Year award.

Toure is enjoying his most prolific season to date at the Etihad Stadium, having already netted 13 goals this season.

Storylines aplenty after Champions League draw

The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League was completed on Monday, with some intriguing fixtures emerging to create a number of story-lines.

Didier Drogba will get his return to Chelsea and what is sure to be an emotional reunion with Jose Mourinho, after the Blues were drawn with Turkish side Galatasaray.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to draw upon all his knowledge of La Liga for the clashes with Barcelona, while Arsene Wenger's Arsenal were arguably handed the toughest tie of them all after they were paired with holders Bayern Munich.

Dzeko, Drogba, Eto'o, Toure and my cartoons

I was extremely happy to see my Goal.com cartoon " Elephants and Lions join Super Eagles in Brazil"
been shared and tweeted by famous players especially when they are the recent winners of the African Player of the Year. Didier Drogba the Ivorian star and the (2006-2009) player of the year first shared it with his Instagram.

Later on the Cameroonian lion and Chelsea star Samuel Eto'o (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010 African Player of the year) tweeted and shared it with his Facebook.

Me and Eto'o had a brief reply on Twitter.

Yaya Toure the last winner of the African Player of the Year and also won it in 2011 retweeted it from Eto'o.

Manchester City Bosnian star Edin Dzeko months ago also shared one of my special cartoon on Bosnia's historical qualify to the World Cup.

Oktoberfest: Bayern celebrate Manchester City thrashing

Bayern Munich are celebrating after enjoying a 3-1 thrashing over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side raced into an early lead through Franck Ribery before two goals in four minutes in the second half, from Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben, put the German side in cruise control.

Alvaro Negredo pulled a late goal back for Manuel Pellegrini’s men but it was scant consolation on a bad night for City, and goalkeeper Joe Hart in particular.

Hazard slips up as Mancini shows Chelsea who's boss

Eden Hazard may have cost Chelsea mega-bucks but his most memorable moments were ones he will want to forget after Manchester City romped to a 3-2 win in the Community Shield.

Having flirted with the Premier League champions, before opting to sign for Roberto Di Matteo's men, Hazard's name was roundly booed by the City fans when it was announced prior to kick-off.

Those same supporters had more reason to cheer during the game. An early dive did little to change their minds before an attempted back-heel to Ashley Cole saw Hazard trip over his own feet and end up face in the turf much to the delight of the City fans.

This year's Goal.com 50 has been announced with Cristiano Ronaldo revealed as the top player of the past 12 months.

Real Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas was surprisingly placed second with Lionel Messi shunted down to third after Los Blancos' title-winning exploits in La Liga last term.
The list has sparked debate and intrigue among fans and pundits alike, and is likely to continue to do so for time to come.

Not everyone has the time to pore over the facts and stats of the list in full so we have brought the entire 50 to you in the simplest of forms.
