Bayern bask after crushing Roma

Bayern Munich produced a stunning display on Tuesday evening by brushing Roma aside with a 7-1 victory.

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to their third win in Group E and were 5-0 up by half time following Arjen Robben’s double, along with goals from Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri netted late on to complete the rout, while Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi admits the loss is “a dagger into the heart” of the Roma supporters.

‘Why always me?’ – Thiago injured again

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee ligament injury in training, with the Spaniard to undergo surgery to repair the tear.

The former Barcelona man has barely featured for the Bundesliga champions since swapping Camp Nou for the Allianz Arena, with his latest setback making a return to action this season unlikely.

Thiago was understandably distraught at the news: “What can I say?” he told the club's official website. “Of course, I am profoundly disappointed and desperate at the moment.

“Why always me? But I will not give up. I will fight again. I'm going to get close again. And I will celebrate my comeback at Bayern.”

Guardiola unconcerned by Bundesliga table

Pep Guardiola admits he is not worried by the fact that Bayern Munich are not already topping the Bundesliga table.

The German champions have secured eight points from their opening four games but are fourth in the league due to goal difference.

Bayern meet current league leaders Paderborn on Tuesday and could go top with a win.

"The table isn't important yet," said the former Barcelona coach. "We have to focus on our own results and performances, not others.

"Paderborn are very impressive, though, and we know why they're top of the table. They'll press us aggressively. They have nothing to lose."
