Smalling shatters Manchester United's derby dreams
Manchester United slipped to their fourth consecutive derby defeat on Sunday after losing 1-0 to champions City at the Etihad Stadium.
Defender Chris Smalling was the villain for the visitors, after being sent off in the first half after picking up a second yellow card, a booking manager Louis van Gaal later branded as "stupid".
With an extra man, City went on to win the game with Sergio Aguero, scoring the only goal on 63 minutes to close the gap on leaders Chelsea and move seven points ahead of their city rivals.

Balotelli breaks the shackles with timely Liverpool goal
Mario Balotelli got the monkey - and maybe the pig - off his back with a late goal for Liverpool against Swansea on Tuesday night.
The walls had been closing in on the Italy striker in recent weeks, but perhaps he has broken the shackles and can now focus on hitting the net of the net in the Premier League.

Madrid take the bite out of Suarez
The bite was taken out of Luis Suarez on Saturday as Real Madrid overpowered Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season.
The Uruguayan set up Neymar for the opening goal, but Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Pepe rendered it irrelevant as the hosts secured an impressive 3-1 win.

Balotelli display leaves Rodgers fuming
It was another night to forget for Mario Balotelli as Real Madrid strolled to a 3-0 win at Anfield.
The Italy striker has struggled for form since his £16 million arrival from AC Milan and was unable to get out of first gear against the European champions on Wednesday evening.
To top it off, Balotelli was caught swapping shirts at half-time with Pepe, a gesture which irked Brendan Rodgers.
“That's the first I've heard (about Balotelli swapping his shirt) and I wouldn't like it either. It shouldn't happen and if that's the case, I'll deal with it,” said the Liverpool manager.
“It’s not something I stand for and it’s something I deal with internally.

Chew on that! Suarez omitted from Ballon d'Or shortlist
As you’d expect, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have made Fifa’s Ballon d’Or shortlist but, surprisingly, there is no place for Luis Suarez.
The Uruguay international led the way with his sublime performances for Liverpool last season but his 31 Premier League goals were apparently not enough to warrant a spot in the 23-man list.
