Ronaldo tops star-studded Goal Rich List

Cristiano Ronaldo has pipped Lionel Messi to the top spot of the 2014 Goal Rich List.

The Real Madrid star is the hottest property in football and boasts an estimated wealth of €148 million [£122m] - just €2m [£1.5m] more than his Barcelona rival.

The list, topped by the now-retired David Beckham in 2013, features the likes of Wayne Rooney, Samuel Eto'o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Heaven-sent century for Milan legend Kaka

Struggling AC Milan kicked off 2014 with a 3-0 victory over Atalanta, led by club centurion Kaka.

In his second spell at San Siro, the Brazilian notched his 100th and 101st goals for the club in a win which still sees them falling short of expectations in 11th place in Serie A.

A deeply religious person, Kaka has famously worn a vest with the message 'I belong to Jesus' underneath his shirt in the past.

And there is no doubt that, in Kaka's eyes, somebody was smiling down on him on Monday.

Higuain in tears as Napoli miss out on last 16

Napoli agonisingly missed out on a place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Despite beating Arsenal 2-0 with goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon, the Italian side were eliminated after Borussia Dortmund defeated Marseille, meaning the Bundesliga outfit progressed top of Group F, with the Gunners finishing second by virtue of a superior goal difference.

And it was all too much for goal scorer Higuain, who could not hide is disappointment after the game.

"Not going through is incredible," he said. "It is an injustice, really.

"Going out with 12 points – winning four games in such an immensely difficult group with two sides as strong as Arsenal and Dortmund - when you see teams going through with only one or two wins, with six or seven points, it's disappointing.

"It cannot be anything else but bad luck because to win four games out of six and be eliminated is not something that happens often."

Ozil & Bale take centre stage as domestic football returns

It's back to school for domestic football as the curtain closed on another round of international fixtures and the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Europe's other top leagues open their doors once again.

Arsenal fans will be relishing seeing Mesut Ozil in action for the first time in a Gunners shirt, with the Germany international set to make his debut against Sunderland, while Marouane Fellaini is expected to line up for Manchester United against Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Gareth Bale will play some part against Villarreal, while Kaka could feature as AC Milan meet Torino following his return to the San Siro club.

Deadline day dominoes ready to topple

Arsene Wenger puts it as only he can: "It’s a little bit a domino game and maybe something will happen in the last 24 hours." We think it's fair to say something WILL happen on transfer deadline day.

With Gareth Bale having completed his world-record move to Real Madrid from Tottenham, the starter's pistol has truly been fired.

Can Arsenal pick off Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria as Madrid look to recoup some funds? Will Manchester United join the race, or will they focus on Maroaune Fellaini and Ander Herrera? Could Luis Suarez finally get his move to Madrid?

Whatever happens, you can keep up-to-date with the latest rumors and confirmed deals on our LIVE blog and Done Deals section.
